Why? How? What for?

Which day of the week always falls on the celebration of Easter. Church Life: Easter Etiquette

Indeed, if the Nativity of Christ has exact dates - Catholics celebrate it on December 25, and Orthodox on January 7 (we'll talk about why these dates differ), then Easter falls on different dates every year, but always on Sunday. True, the interval between them is strictly limited: the Bright Resurrection of Christ - Easter - is celebrated no earlier than April 4 and no later than May 8. did it happen that way?

"The Torah will come out of Zion": Ruth does not come out of Moab. This was possible thanks to Christianity. Unlike Ruth, who came out of Moab and entered into the covenant and chose to obey the Law, it was the gospel brought by the Christians to leave Jerusalem, already with the Christian Pentecost, and this allowed the law also to be known by the Gentiles. Lord and serve him under the same yoke.

Thus, the messianic hope, the Torah and the commandments became common religious property among the inhabitants of the remote islands and among the numerous uncircumcised peoples of heart and flesh. In the patristic interpretation, Ruth is the figure of the Church, which comes from the Gentiles; with Christian Pentecost, Ruth no longer leaves Moab to go to Bethlehem, it is the Church who goes to meet her.

To understand, let us recall again the First Ecumenical Council, at which the Julian calendar was adopted as mandatory for all Christians. This did not happen by chance: the main goal of the Council was to unite the still scattered Christian communities at that time, and a single calendar was supposed to help this. Another very confusing question was also decided at the Council: when to celebrate the main holiday of Christians - Easter. The fact is that the messages of the evangelists about the exact date Christ's Resurrection are controversial and different Christian communities celebrated Easter on different days. Many of them combined it with the old and yet unforgotten pagan holiday of the spring rebirth of nature, which, in the old fashioned way, was "tied" to the lunar phases. Therefore, Easter was celebrated not earlier than the first spring full moon, but always on Sunday. The “solar” beginning of spring is the spring equinox on March 21st. And if the full moon happened at least one day before the equinox, then it was no longer considered spring: in order to celebrate Easter, one had to wait for the next full moon, which already fell in April.

Astronomers made up Paschalia, which made it possible to determine the date of Easter for many years to come.

While we can easily dismiss this phrase by explaining that “the accusation of drunkenness remembered by Luke undoubtedly reflects the experience that Christian communities often had with non-believers who misjudged charismatic manifestations,” others explain this by starting with ancient Jewish traditions that have been transmitted the Dead Sea Scrolls. In the so-called Temple Scroll, it is written that some Jews celebrated Pentecost at three moments; one of them was a new wine festival. Since the first fruits of the harvest had to be offered, so was the New Wine Pentecost, which was celebrated fifty days after the first Pentecost.

After long discussions, the Council ordered that Easter be celebrated with three indispensable conditions: on Sunday, shortly after the day of the vernal equinox and not earlier than the first spring full moon. But such a decision caused considerable difficulties, and in itself it was very contradictory. After all, the Julian solar calendar adopted at the same Council did not take into account the phases of the moon. And the time of the first spring full moon had to be calculated according to the lunar or lunisolar calendar, and this should be done in advance. And all due to the fact that other Christian holidays are timed to Easter, for example, the Trinity, as well as fasts that should be observed both before and after Easter.

But what would it make sense for Luke to make a connection between the Christian Pentecost and the new wine? Again, referring to Jewish sources could be enlightening. In the Jewish tradition witnessed this time by the Aramaic versions of the Bible, the tarumim, wine is a symbol of the Torah of Sinai, as we read in several passages, for example in Song of Songs 8, We go to Jerusalem and suck with you the words of the Law, like breastfeeding in the mother's chest. The words "Song" are interpreted here in a messianic way: phrases of love between beloved and beloved are read as formulas that mark the conjugal covenant between Israel and their God; the gaze from the past now opens to the future, to the coming of the Messiah, and passes through the present, which is in Zion-Jerusalem.

In the end, the Church had to draw up special tables with the help of astronomers, according to which it was possible to determine in advance the dates of the onset of Easter, the so-called Paschalia. They were based on the Greek Metonic cycle already known to us, according to which 19 solar years correspond almost exactly to months.

The great German scientist of the 19th century, Karl Gauss, became interested in paschalia and developed their mathematical theory.

It is in this holy city that the epilogue of the saving story is now celebrated. In Jerusalem, as before in Sinai, you can still hear the Torah, no, feed her like a baby on a mother's breast. If the disciples of Emmaus burned their hearts in their chests, the Church of Pentecost, now on Mount Zion, finally got access to the Sinai basement.

Mass at Cohen Domini is celebrated in cathedrals where the ritual of foot washing takes place, repeating what Jesus himself did. After the Glory of Mass, the bells no longer play until the Glory of the Easter Vigil. In the evening, until midnight, the faithful linger near the altars in bowing to the Eucharist on Friday, holy, this is the day of the death of Jesus on the Cross, at about three o'clock a solemn celebration of the Passion is held, with a pious exercise of the station of the Cross or "Three hours." on Holy Saturday and a day without a liturgy is not a mass. At night there is an Easter vigil.

Curiously, much later, the great mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855) developed a mathematical theory of Easter, confirming that Easter never happens before April 4th or later than May 8th.

Easter is a wonderful spring holiday. All Christians celebrate it. But for many, the reason for the change in the date of the celebration of the great Resurrection remains a mystery.

In it, we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord through a liturgy in fiery illumination Easter Sunday: Resurrection Sunday sings of the joy of Easter in all its splendor: Faith in the Risen Christ is a fundamental element of Christianity, especially the Christianity of St. Paul, and this is an element of great importance. his Epistles, which are the first documents relating to the history of the Christian community, are all permeated with an unequal exaltation: the assurance of the resurrection and therefore of salvation from Christ.

Here are some of the castellan stories in which Easter is their theme. B. orders and disposes of all individual communities, Podestas and Priory cities and places of his jurisdiction, who must immediately go and appoint certain persons of authority, fearing God and not interested in injustices, who must observe and glorify the Lord Pan of the province and general health should refer to the union and peace between all those who are finally deprived of the gratitude of God and blinded by the enemy of humane nature, did not want to calm down and appease, trying to suppress every quarrel, question, hatred, inertia and other ill-will that will sacredly bind them, to calm down, to calm myself.

Reason for changing the date of Easter

Easter is the main moving holiday in church calendar. Many associate the change in the date of the holiday with Christmas or other religious holidays. But this reasoning is wrong.

The reason for the constant date change is rooted in the history of the ancient Jews. The moment of the resurrection of Christ coincided with the ancient Jewish holidays - Jewish Passover (Pesach). On this day, the Jews celebrate the exodus from Egypt. This date is fixed and does not change. It falls on the 14th day of the month of Aviv in the Jewish calendar. This day is always the first full moon after the spring equinox. According to the Julian calendar (it was used during the life of Christ), the equinox fell on March 21st. And since the number of days in these calendars was different, the Easter holiday became a transitional holiday and is celebrated depending on the full moon following the day of the spring equinox.

Therefore, he calls on all interested people, as above, to be pacified in accordance with the divine prescription, which, in addition to receiving merit from the majesty of God and praising the world, she will receive great pleasure and she will be very loved. Two smelters will have to be remade, one from Padua and the other from Macerat. For the intonation of the bell, the founder sends two choristers, who must be reduced by the music teacher. Meanwhile, a broken bell is sent to Padua. In the tragic days of the last war, when something begins to develop badly, here are the heartfelt appeals of our pastors: "Tuesday Brothers, we must not forget in this Majestic duty our obligations to the Fatherland."

How to calculate the date of Easter

Calculating the date of Easter on your own is quite troublesome. This will require knowledge of the lunar calendar.

The Resurrection of Christ is celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon immediately following the spring equinox. It can be any day from April 4th to May 9th. Moreover, the number of options for the day of celebration is 532. That is. all possible variants take 532 years. This period is called the Great Indiction and it is constantly repeated.

At about 5:00 pm, twin-engine planes arriving from the south, arriving at Osimo territory, drop down to the machine gun of a German anti-aircraft vehicle passing through the city. The car is damaged and two German soldier mortally wounded. In the post-war period, everything returns to calm and peace. Christmas holidays were already held at Easter. The first very important issue for the planning of Holy Week was whether Easter was low or high and it was convenient for the event.

It was necessary to rebel or fix the party clothes, which over time became discolored and torn. The same goes for broken shoes that need to be redone. In the sun or snow, you had to change into light clothes and short sleeves. The empire, which led especially to girls with open arms, faced significant difficulties: flabby skin and violet and the cold of cold. The coming of Easter was actually spring, swallows, sunshine and long and beautiful days. My God, it's not like that today because the weather has changed too, the four seasons have been reduced to two.

AT modern world especially for convenience, programs have been developed that allow you to calculate the day of the holiday. They have already entered all the necessary data and you only need to specify the year of interest. In addition, you can always purchase a calendar indicating all Orthodox holidays, including passing ones.

Why is Catholic and Orthodox Easter different?

The difference between two dates of the same holiday is that Catholics and Orthodox use different calendars. In other words, March 21 in the Julian calendar (old style) and the Gregorian calendar (new style) will fall on different days. That is why Catholic Easter is usually celebrated a week earlier. But there are also rare exceptions, when the bright Sunday of Catholics and Orthodox coincides

Even when they run, they are disoriented as they leave their old nests. Holy Week obliged believers and priests to make a tour of power: the tridium preached with an exhibition of the sacrament, the Seulluks, for three hours with the top of the night procession with the Dead Christ. Finally, on Sunday, everyone went to mass to celebrate the resurrected Christ. Easter and then everyone to work or school. Even the family was busy. He needed to arrange for an organized visit by a priest to bless the house. Our moms turned the house upside down for the occasion, cleaning and refreshing the rooms remained closed during the winter.
